Have you ever wondered how you can get started using essential oils? When I first got started using essential oils I had a very particular need in mind.
That helped me a lot as I got started using oils in my daily life. Once I got started and noticed the difference they made in my life I started expanding my horizons.
That’s when I got a bit addicted. I have used about every big name essential oil on the market and I have come back to Young Living ever time.
Now I want to tell you from the get-go that I am not sharing Young Living with you to make money. I share it because I love it and my family loves it.
So here we are with so many bottles on hand that I can’t tell you what I have anymore. I am more likely to be able to tell you what I don’t have these days.

I want to speak to those people out there that are interested in essential oils but are unsure of the best way to use them.
This is my story of how I got started and how you can too. It’s really not as difficult as it seems.
Reason #1 Kid With Asthma
I have a kid with asthma and she tends to get really sick when there is dust or mold lingering around. She also tends to have minor attacks when I use toxic cleaning chemicals in the house. Our homes are petri dishes for nastiness and every time she had an attack it was from something I had done in the house or from catching a cold.
Now I’m not saying essential oils have cured her asthma. They haven’t.
But essential oils have allowed me to create cleaning supplies to use in our home that isn’t likely to trigger her asthma.
Reason #2 Toxic Ingredients
I’m the furthest thing from all organic, green or sustainable that you could find, but I have a new found love for getting rid of harmful products in our home.
Have you looked at the back of that Lysol container to see if you are cleaning properly?
Have you noticed that it says to call poison control if you get it on your skin or in your eyes?
Essential oils, if they get on your skin and eyes, can be remedied by applying a carrier oil.
See the difference?
I would clean my bathroom and have a headache for hours afterward and would have to quarantine my oldest to another room until the fumes subsided.
I have tried natural products and never felt like they got the job done.
That’s when essential oils came into our lives and from there on I have slowly (and I’m talking like 3 years) started ditching and switching our products.
My Favorite Uses for Essential Oils
Household Cleaners
I have swapped all of our household cleaners except for toilet bowl cleaner over to Thieves® Cleaning products.
My favorite is the all purpose cleaner I use in the kitchen.
I bought these wonderful glass bottles to mix my cleaners in and they do such an amazing job at cleaning up the gunk the kids leave for me.
I have created several different cleaners out of my Theives® Household Cleaner.
Some of those include:
- Bathroom Cleaner
- All-Purpose Cleaner
- Heavy Duty Degreaser
- Window Cleaner
I have replaced all of the toxic cleaning chemicals I was using in my home and I haven’t looked back yet.
With the Thieves® line I have even replaced hand soap, dish soap, and my laundry soap.
I couldn’t be happier with the results. To have the peace of mind in knowing I can hand my kids a rag and the bottle of cleaner and they can go clean and they won’t be harmed.
I have a toddler that LOVES to help clean so this is a nice little perk.
Air Fresheners
You know those air fresheners you can buy at the store? You spray them around your house hoping to rid your rooms of the odors for the smell to come right back.
I was using wall outlets, wax burners, candles and more trying to get my house to smell good. It wasn’t because I had a dirty house. It’s just the smell of an active house.
We cook, clean and there are people coming in and out of the home.
I can turn on my diffuser or spray my freshener that I make from vodka and it’s a lot healthier than that store-bought stuff.
I love making homemade custom air fresheners depending on my mood and don’t get me started on the combination of diffuser scents you can put on at any given time.
Relaxation
I absolutely love putting oils on a rag in my shower and turning it into a relaxing sauna. When I had a bathtub I would fill my tub with Epsom salt and water and drop in lavender for a relaxing soak.
I have even made homemade lotions that I rub myself down with after a long day of chasing the kids.
There is nothing better than Panaway cream after a hard hike or workout.
